Sasha Lisnichuk, 7-string guitarist extraordinaire, died at the end of December of brain cancer. He was 60. He was my friend. In recent years he became a priest in the Russian Orthodox church, but 20+ years previously we performed and recorded together– Brazilian Choro and our original music. At a time when my career was upended, Sasha was one of the friends who stepped forward to right my ship. He was brilliant, funny, charming, exacting as a musician, generous as a collaborator. Here is a track we recorded for my CD, Nadando em Luz (Swimming in Light), his cheerful “Morning Samba.” I will miss knowing he is on the planet.
